Rules and Expectations

The Sailfish swim team wants to ensure a safe environment for our swimmers. This involves awareness of their surroundings, safe play and respect for others. The Fair Play Code for Swimmers and Rules of the Pool have been developed for this purpose. We ask that the swimmers and their families review these and discuss their meaning and the importance of following them.

Fair Play Code for Swimmers

The Fair Play Code for Swimmers is a pledge emphasizing respect and personal commitment to promote fair play, sportsmanship and safety.

  • I will respect my coaches at all times and will remember that they are providing me with an opportunity to learn and improve my swimming skills.
  • I will respect my fellow swimmers.
  • I will follow the pool rules and play safely at all times.
  • I will swim to the best of my ability.
  • I will make a commitment to my team by attending practices, swim meets and special events and be a team player.
  • I will respect the officials and their decisions at all times.
  • I will acknowledge all good performances of my teammates and opponents.
  • I will remember that swimming is not everything. Having fun, improving skills, making friends and doing my best are also important.

Rules of the Pool

The Rules of the Pool provide a guide for the conduct of the swimmers while at practice and meets and general interaction with the coaches and swim team executive.

  • Inappropriate behavior, including foul language and play deemed unsafe and disrespectful, will not be tolerated.
  • Swimmers who chose not to swim any portion of the practice must remain in the area designated by the coaches for the remainder of the practice or until they return to the practice.
  • When possible coaches should be notified if a swimmer needs to leave practice early or will be arriving late.
  • Swimmers are to come to practice only if they are physically able and mentally willing to participate.
  • Parents are welcome to watch the practices from the designated spectator area. Parents are not allowed on the pool deck.
  • Concerns regarding coaching are to be directed to a member of the team executive. Parents are not to discuss concerns with the coaches or contact them at home.
